"Unfortunately we were unable to finalize your order and therefore will cancel it at this time. Your account will not be charged, or you will receive a prompt refund or credit if due"...The letter goes on to give their web address and a phone number. A reference number is then provided to "help" you.
When I called the number, I talked to a woman in India, who wanted to transfer me to a "credit bereau" to clear up my credit. Apparently my "billing information" was used to"purchase" this item. My Macy's number was not used.
I called Macy's Customer Service, and cancelled my card. I was informed by the representative that Macy's does not inform customers via email or letter, but would call them in the case of suspected fraud.
Yet another scam to beware of.....
