Type of a scam Employment
I applied to a job through online job posting ZipRecruiter on June 21, 2021, and I received an email with an invitation for the job interview by the Talent Acquisition Specialist Jamie Fortworth on July 9, 2021. The interview was scheduled on July 12, 2021, and it was conducted through email communication with Senior Recruiter Christie Smith. I received a job offer on the same day, and I received an offer letter the next day (July 13, 2021). I emailed them back with the signed offer letter and copy of my government-issued ID and SSN card, according to their instructions in the email. The next day (July 14, 2021), I received confirmation email from them, saying that I need to pay for the expenses upfront before receiving a check from them. Then they also asked me to sign up for debit card through EDD, saying that it offers Payroll Support for businesses.
I felt suspicious about this email, thus I directly contacted the company, Magnite, Inc. to check whether this job offer was legitimate; however, the company told me that they have never posted the job for the role that I was offered, and they do not have employees named Jamie Fortworth and Christie Smith as well as the job titles associated with these names in their record. I stopped the communication with the scammers after knowing that.
I have contacted Equifax, Experian and TransUnion to freeze my credit report and set up fraud alert. I also filed a report to FTC and IC3 Complaint Referral Form, and contacted bank to add a security for my account.
