This "business" contacted me selling "PR" packages ranging from $999 to $3999 to represent my book at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. The person (Luna Dela Vega) had my personal cell phone number which I do not give out. I told Luna I needed to call them back and when I tried to call the number back Luna called from I got a State Farm voicemail message twice. This was strange because the number came up on my caller ID as Mainspring Books. I found a website for an organization with that name in California (https://mainspringbooks.com/) and sent an email to find out if they had indeed emailed me. That's when I received an email about representing my book at the festival. (I received emails from both [email protected] and [email protected]). The first email from Luna included a link that I didn't click on (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SF9aQrTuOEg). There were misspellings and grammar issues in the email that made me suspicious. The email never came right out to say they were selling something at first, just told me about this "prestigious event" they wanted to represent me at and all they could do for me. I asked them if they were selling something and that I wouldn't be interested if so. That's when they wrote back, again describing everything they could do for me then telling me about about these discounted packages. The org is listed on the Writers Beware website on the list they have a places with predatory practices and falsely represents themselves as being in the US but are actually out of the Phillipines: https://writerbeware.blog/scam-archive/

They said they wanted to publish my books, they would do all editing, publishing, advertising & book fairs for the price listed. They have a realistic website but I always check ScamPulse.com & found another person who went through this process only to find out they spent money to get to the bookfair only to find out its fake & he lost money on it.

The scammer persistently contacted me to invite my book to be a part of the Miami Book Fair in November 2023. In exchange, they wanted $1,699 US to have my book in an exhibition tent as a 'high potential, high impact book". When I contacted the organizers of the Miami Book Fair, I learned that Mainspring Books is not permitted to be involved in this fair due to "questionable ethics and poor client feedback". When I confronted the scammer with this fraud, she hung up.
