Total money lost $500
Type of a scam Employment
A person going by the name of Mark Pak contacted me using the email I listed in this report. "He" obtained my driver's license and said I got the job. Then stating I was actually gonna to be paid more due to my degree at 60 an hour which equals 124k a year.
After accepting, the "job offer" I was told a check would be sent electronically for about 5000 dollars. I was told this was for buying office equipment. He stated the company couldn't do it due to "logistic" issues. That it's easier for the employee to buy it from approved vendors.
The asked for my bank name to put on the check then sent me this e-check. I deposited it into my account. Then when the pending funds were available I was asked to send 500 to another address [email protected] as it was one of the vendors. I did so. Then he proceeded to ask me to send another 2000 to someone called Eugune F Benters. This set off some red flags that should have gone off before. However, I've been so hopefully for a job I was blinded.
I asked my fiancée for an opinion. He said I should contact my banks fraud department for help. They stated at some point the check will most likely bounce costing me even more money.
Unfortunately, since the thing they had me used (called Zelle) is a p2p app it's treated as cash so no refunds even if it's a scam.
I stopped conversation with the person. I neglected to mention he requested our conversations continue on Google Workspace chat. This was after accepting the job offer.
There's a bit more to this story, but I'm hoping this helps someone else being prevented from being scammed. I see one other TN person has the same happen to them unfortunately. They are still contacting me even now. I have stopped communication. Please never send money for a job. It's always a no.
