On Thursday, December 7, 2023, I was contacted by a person, named Mary Dawson from Alimentiv USA. She mentioned in the email that they received my resume through LinkedIn & asked to schedule an interview. The position was Remote Data Entry/ Administrative Assistant. They offered $45/hr and $47/hr during training and they would provide equipment. I chose the time and was sent instructions to download the RingCentral app. Since I’ve done many interviews through video call apps, it wasn’t suspicious. I assumed it was going to a video call but she said we were going to conduct the interview through chat. We finished the interview and a few days go by I’m told I got the job. I was excited. After being sent the offer letter, which it took multiple times on their end for some reason. After signing the offer letter, I was told to do an assessment and it would be reviewed and I’d be compensated. I was suspicious because I wasn’t sent an onboarding link. Even though I was excited, a part of me was skeptical because it seemed too good to be true. I did more research and found out that scammers are pretending to be recruiters and sending checks for people to deposit into their accounts. A phishing scam. Even on the company website, when you scrolled down, there was a warning about scams. Fortunately, the only information I gave them was my address. I sent “Mary” a professional email declining the job offer. Today, she sends me an email as if everything is normal and sends me an electronic check. I resent my formal decline.
