Type of a scam Phishing
Then they asked for me to send back a 6digit code to prove that I was really selling something. Like a fool, I responded even though I thought it odd.
I then got 2 more interested parties with same request. I did not respond.
First party then told me they were not interested.
Three parties were “supposedly” from Falmouth, MA buy and trade online site.
I saved texts.
They posed as Laura Elizabeth, Mona D Clark, Andrea Day
A few hours later, after reading the ScamPulse.com warning online ( thank you) I:
1. Suspended my Verizon phone number.
2. I turned off my phone.
3. I called Verizon. Today is Sunday so after pushing painful prompts forever and could not speak with live person, I hung up. “ we see that you have suspended your number due to stolen phone so we cannot help you”.
4. Went to Verizon. They had no clue as to what to do.
5. Tried to report occurrence to Facebook. Tricky to navigate and hard to report specifics. Needs improvement.
6. Cleared any of my identifiers from Facebook.
7. Went on Facebook and told all of my “friends” about it and to check out the ScamPulse.com warning.
8. I have photos of texts.
My questions:
1. What more can I do now?
2. How might I have been compromised?
3. How long do I suspend my phone number? I am a first responder still working per diem. I receive many calls and have had to alert some people about other ways to contact me.
Thanks
