Type of a scam Employment
I was contacted by Peter Mator from Edna's Counseling Center, who claimed to be a counselor there. He offered to hire me as a Nurse Practitioner with a salary of $8,000, but after negotiation, we agreed on a $1,000 down payment before starting the service. On May 14, 2024, I trusted him to connect his business under my NPI with AHCCCS.
On May 24, I reached out to Peter to ask when I would start. He texted that he wanted me to start in June. I informed him of my travel plans from June 9 to 19 but mentioned I could see patients through telehealth or in person when I returned. On June 3, I asked for an update, and he mentioned an issue with the manager and patients. On June 4, I messaged him that I wanted to start the week of June 3-7 and expressed my concerns about the suspicious nature of our interactions. I told him I would cancel my connection with his IOP and AHCCCS.
Peter struggled to pay the $1,000, initially sending me $300 three times and then finally $100. On June 17, I reached out again to ask when I could start seeing clients and requested access to the EMR for charting, which never happened. He postponed the start date multiple times, citing various reasons. By June 21, after more delays, I decided to terminate my association with Edna's Counseling Center and remove my NPI from their AHCCCS affiliation.
On June 20, I received a check for $1,594.09 from AHCCCS, which I thought was from my other clients and deposited it. However, on June 25, I received an invoice from AHCCCS indicating the amount was from a client I never treated. This raised my suspicions about Edna's Counseling Center.
I do not have access to the AHCCCS portal because I never received the security code despite requesting it multiple times. This is why I am reaching out and reporting the suspected fraud on your website. I also received a call from Loretta Young, the real owner of Edna's Counseling Center, who informed me that she had received three checks from AHCCCS (approximately $200k, $40k, and $30k). Peter Mator attempted to withdraw these funds on July 3 but failed. Loretta is willing to return the deposited money.
I am willing to return the $1,594.09 check and am awaiting your instructions on how to proceed. I advised Loretta to report the fraud and return the money as well. I have never seen any clients and never received access to the EMR to chart for clients.
Please reach out to me by email or phone to provide further instructions.
