Type of a scam Home Improvement
On June 23rd I finally asked if he would prefer to just give my deposit back so I could find someone to do the job. He promised he would start on it, soon.
On June 26th he asked for the remainder amount due, promising to start the job the next day. I said no. He said he understood and would start the job the following day, anyway.
On June 30th I asked Matt to return my deposit. No response.
On July 1st I ask for my deposit back. He offers another excuse as to why he has still not started the job. I am skeptical and starting to realize I’ve been scammed.
On July 2nd he says he will start my job soon. I tell him I no longer want to employ him, I just want my deposit back. He claims he has already pressure washed and even though I KNOW he hasn’t, I tell him he can keep $200 for pressure washing two sides of a small structure, but I want the rest $1800 back. He claims he has already purchased paint. I tell him to return it. He says he can’t. I tell him to give me the paint along with the receipts for it and I will reimburse him for it. He refuses to give paint to me. He has yet to offer receipts.
July 4th I ask for my money back. No response.
July 5th I ask for my money back. No response.
July 6th he begs me to let him “prove himself” and allow him to do the job. At this point I realize I’m not getting my money back, so I tell him I want it DONE. He says he will start the next day. He didn’t.
July 8th he offers another excuse as to why he still hasn’t started the job.
July 9th I demand that he give me my money back. He again claims he has put $1450 into the job, again refusing to offer any proof/receipts, then says he plans to sue me for libel, defamation, slander for making a Facebook post about my experience. He and his wife send me messages threatening legal action against me and trying to bully me into submission silence. I again, ask for my money back with the same offer to reimburse for materials upon delivery of said materials along with receipts and $200 for pressure washing that he didn’t even do. I tried to be reasonable to just recoup what money so could. He then says I’m the one who doesn’t want him to do the work, therefore, he won’t give me my money back.
I plan to file a claim with the Attorney General and file with small claims court on Thursday July 14th.
