Type of a scam Tax Collection
"Officer James Davis, Badge 3005" said he was calling from the Mecklenberg County Sheriff's Office, saying a complaint had been received against my name; to call Officer Shawn Woods, Dept of Internal Revenue Service at (202) 754-8404 as soon as I can to take care of this. Before hanging up, I verified Officer Davis’ name and asked for his phone number, and he gave (704) 336-2543 x1705. I called the “IRS” number which was answered by a woman and was transferred; Woods asked for my Social Security # immediately. I said I don't give it out by phone, what is this in reference to? He insisted he needed my SSN to bring up the data in the system, and I asked why they haven't mailed me anything. He said he couldn’t discuss anything without my SSN, which I again denied; then he said “Fine, ma’am. We will send a sheriff with a warrant to arrest you within 30 minutes.”
I believe they were ultimately attempting to get my Social Security Number and money, but we never got past the request for my SSN, so I do not know what more they would have asked.
I have called (704) 336-2543 and did receive the Meck Co Sheriff's Office, who confirmed this was a scam call.
