I was sent an email from an official employee of the University of Maryland, College Park. His email was [email protected]. He sent the email on behalf of Melissa Rhodes. The email was offering an administrative assistant position. I emailed Melissa Rhodes at [email protected] to express interest in the position. Melissa claimed to be a Senior Investment Director at CoinBase. Melissa requested more information such as date of birth, home address, and name of my bank. Once I provided it Melissa offered me the job. Melissa began communicating with me through text message from another phone number than originally stated. That number was 619-693-4681. Melissa then emailed me a check and told me to purchase bitcoin for her, and then verify the purchase. I attempted to deposit the check and the check bounced which led to my bank charging me a return check fee and blocking my account and now I don’t have access to my money. Melissa hasn’t responded to any of my texts/emails. Another number contacted me later that day claiming to be Melissa. That number was 386-260-4654.
