Michael Oneil ([email protected]) contacted me about a phone I am selling on Mercari.com. He claims that the payment wouldn't go through and that I should contact Mercari help center. I was then told that I had to buy a One Vanilla prepaid card for $100 to set up the account. However the fund would be deposited into my Mercari account. I had sold something with them before while back and this was not the case. Anyhow, I figured I would try it as I've heard of crazier things. However when then I received an email that said he made the payment ($1149) and that it was put on hold at Mercari. It also asked for another prepaid card in the amount of $499 to cover shipping and that it would be credited to my account along with the $650 sale price of the phone. However the purchase did not go through and the buyer became increasingly agitated in texts saying that I was trying to rip him off and all sorts of things. Finally I'd had enough and blocked him. I lost $100 plus the $3.95 fee. I would love to get my money back, and I hope this helps keep others from being scammed.
