My grandmother called me over this afternoon bc her laptop had a pop up saying "admin lockout" contact us at 833-307-4113 immediately. Do not attempt to shut down or restart your computer bc the virus will spread rapidly. So, I called the number. He answered as "customer support" I explained the pop up to him. He asked a few questions and based off of our interaction I declined when he needed remote access from me. He proceeded to tell me he needs to take care of this immediately or everything on my computer will be stolen. I told him thank you, but I am not comfortable allowing you access to my grandmothers lap top and hung up on him.

At that time, I googled the number for microsoft support, and I reached out to 855-498-3228. I was on the phone for over 45 minutes with these people. I still would not allow access remotely. He had me run all these tests and tasks, and then told me my case is being forwarded to the highest level security tech support. I also asked if he was affiliated with the first number I called (the one listed on the pop up on the computer) and was told no they are not affiliated. He told me most likely that was a hacker. Once he transferred me to the other tech support, that man called me from a different 800 number (800-275-2277). He placed me on hold and came back and told me it appears I have a clampi virus. He will need me to let him log in remotely, and also he needed my grandmothers financial institutions and account numbers so he could follow up with the bank and let them know what was going on. I told him no, I am not giving access, I will take the computer to a local computer repair business. He said to me, "So, what you are telling me is that you are choosing to ignore the problem at hand, disregard professional instruction, and take matters into your own hand?" I said yes that is correct, to which he said ok thanks good luck, and hung up on me.

This whole ordeal had my 83 year old grandmother in a panic. I do not like to see her this way, nor do I respond well to it. I hope if anyone sees this, and gets a call or a pop up with the numbers listed above, please do not call them. Take your computer in person to a real live person you can see and locate if anything goes awry.
