Microsoft Service Imposter Reports & Reviews (1)

Sept 12, 2021 I got a popup message notifying me of fatal security errors. I noticed they appeared to be from a non-recognizable website so x'd them out, only to have them immediately reappear. I went to search internet for anti-virus software as my subscription had expired. When doing so, the computer screen froze. I shut off the machine.

Sept 13, 2021 am I rebooted my computer and it remained frozen with no curser. Soon a full page warning message appeared saying that the computer had been locked due to fatal security error. It also provided a number 1-888-214-7193 to call for service. As I couldn't get it unlocked after fiddling with it, I called the number and got caught into a fraud scheme that I did not wake up to until the following day. I'm not sure if the person answering said he was from any specific firm but gave his name as Jack (at one point he said Jack M., another Jack Wilson, on screen id'd as Jack8). He asked me to sign into Desk xxx but my internet access kept cutting him off so he requested I use Vision xxx. I provided him the id # and password (dumb) and he had access for a short while but internet connection cut him off. One of these sites he was identified as Jack8. He told me a hacker got in and was accessing porn sites around the world (later he also mentioned "child porn, which could get me in real trouble"). My case # was MSC 00791. He had a mideastern accent.

He told me that in order to block the hacker I would need to get $200 in a google play card and that would be reimbursed with cashier's check. He then told me they needed a higher level of security clearance to fix 1 stubborn hacker and wanted another $300 google play card, again to be reimbursed (again started to think this was weird but never questioned enough to stop).

He told me to prevent from further hacking I could purchase protection for $1,500 and a yearly renewal fee, $2,500 and a smaller fee or $3,500 for a lifetime coverage that was transferable. He then told me that I would purchase now through apple gift card and it would be reinbursed (I wondered why, if it was microsoft why they would use apple but let it slip). Somewhere in there they told me I needed a new IP address.

I was disconnected once and received 2 incoming calls from them, one a second person which I hung up on and the second from the guy which I ended up answering. He asked me to call him on the other # (again weird but did it). When I looked on my call record later, those 2 calls did not show up.

In the end, I fell for approximately $4000 of such charges, getting a bit curious but always following through. He offered up a Microsoft Surface Pro in exchange for the time I had taken, to be delivered with cashier's check the next day. Also said they needed and additional $1900 for something. While going to the bank, I began asking questions, as did the teller. I realized this was a scan and disconnected all contact. Later I shut down my computer. When rebooted the cursor couldn't be found and it was locked. It remains locked at this time.

I can provide my phone number and any computer information if FBI or other official entity investigates the fraud. Also have gift card #'s.

I called on Sept 14 and was told that

He told me it was fixed but needed to monitor for 24 hours and he'd call me back on Sept 14 but asked me to call if I had not heard from him.
