I was on my computer on 6/14/21, when suddenly I received a loud sound stating my computer had been locked and information compromised. I was told to call the 800 number shown (I no longer have the 800 number). The Microsoft agent (James) willingly proceeded to look into my computer and then stated that there were outstanding International charges against my bank account. I do not know how he knew this. He asked for the number of the Fraud department at my banking institution and I gave him the telephone number on the back of the card. After much waiting while he went thru my computer system, he said I should contact the Fraud department and I did. A Mr. Kevin Glenmoore got on the line pretending to be head of the Fraud department. He put me on hold and then confirmed that there were international charges being assessed against my account. After much waiting again, Mr. Glenmoore came back on the line and stated it was extremely important to move my funds out of the current account and into a temporary cryptocurrency account. I asked why and he stated there could be more charges if I left the funds in my current account. He also said I should be very discreet about who I spoke to as no one should be trusted at this time. He told me he would call me again the next day with specific information to take to the bank for the temporary cryptocurrency account. The Microsoft guy came back onto the line and advised they were still working on my computer. At some point, he asked for access to my computer. The next day I got a call from the Microsoft guy (James) and he asked if I had been in touch with the Fraud department. I said I had and then, the next thing I knew, Mr. Glenmoore was on the phone again telling me what I should say when I went to the bank. He gave me a script as well as information to make the transfer to. It is attached hereto. The bank asked me so many questions that I could not answer so I said I would get answers and then come back. I called Mr. Glenmoore back and told him I did not have a good feeling about the process and that I wanted to talk with the local Fraud officer. He got mad and said if I was going to do that, he would not be responsible if I lost any money from my account. I said fine and he said he wanted me to say "yes" that he would not be responsible. I said "yes" and he hung up on me. I tried to call the Microsoft guy and he asked if I were done with the Fraud department and I said yes and he said that he was done with me and hung up the phone.

Received pop-up on computer saying it may have been infected. (Could not get out of message, but now know to try Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and end task.) Says to call a toll-free number. They request to get remote access. I said I was uncomfortable doing that, b/c how could I verify it was Microsoft. He said, "You called me, right?" Proceeded to show me various screens that showed corrupted files and foreign addresses trying to access our computer. All seemed real until the hard push on selling me security software started, b/c it just didn't feel right. Then I pushed a little, then he got nastier. I eventually requested he get out of my computer, and said no, I'm not buying anything. Asked him to give me the tool-free number again, but he hung up. I did call back and asked to speak to a supervisor, who again confirmed that it was Microsoft.

Unfortunately, I let him have the access. I'm running security software from MS now to detect infections.
