Scammer contacted me via pop up for Microsoft tech support after I clicked a link for a government website. My laptop keyboard was seemingly frozen and the pop up displayed a toll free number and Microsoft logo. Prior to calling, I Googled the number and found a match on what appeared to be a Microsoft tech support website (I now know it was a fake site and it has since disappeared). When I called the toll-free number, I received an automated greeting stating I'd reached Microsoft and should hold for the next available agent. The agent (scammer) supplied his name, ID number as well as number for a "service ticket". He gave me his direct number and asked for my phone number "in case we get disconnected". The phone connection was bad, so I requested that he call me on my phone. The scammer instructed me to screen share and run a scan on my laptop, in fear, I complied. Scammer also directed me to Wikipedia page about "Spy Eye" mal ware claiming the scan would look for this malware. Scammer did not ask me for money, bitcoin or account numbers. Scammer supplied the names of all places I have bank accounts and credit cards (I now know this is public record). I ended call when he instructed me to open a browser and check these accounts for fraudulent charges.
