Was on my laptop, large message popped up saying my computer was compromised. To call tech support number listed.

They offered to run diagnostics tests from their end to solve problems. Stated my financial info was compromised. They ask me to check my acct because 8000.00 transaction occurred. (I naively did that)

Then they said they would connect me to my bank an resolve.

They knew all my accts. an balances.

I was then told to go-to bank, withdraw $8000.00. I was instructed to tell no one why I was withdrawing, because transaction was an inside job, don't trust tellers.

They wanted to know how long it would take to get to bank. And before going in was to call them . And they would tell me what Atm to put that $ in.

I did go the bank, and got 4 phonecalls from 1-360-467-9216. I never answered. Went into bank, talked to teller. Closed my accts an also had to take my laptop to be "scrubbed" (referral was thru bank)

The names of the 2 "tech support" men are James Lee an Michael Carlson.

I was working at my computer on Monday when I received a couple of popup windows (supposedly) from Windows Defender, saying that there was Malware and Adware installed on my computer and if I called 1-877-836-1208, they would remove it. In fact, this notice literally locked up my computer to where I couldn't even use my mouse! So - since they looked legitimate, I called the above-referenced number. A person by the name of "Gary William" answered - but he sounded like he had a strong Indian accent. He then transferred me to a "Henry Smith" (who also had a strong Indian accent). They had me download a "remote" program called Anydesk.com - which I did. They then had me set up a mobile account with my bank to check for security. They then said they would run a diagnostic on my computer to rid it of any other Malware and Adware, and they would call me back the following day to follow up. They never did call back.

Instead I received several messages (supposedly) from my bank on my cellphone saying that there were back-due charges which had not been paid! That's when I realized that I had fallen victim to a scam - both from "Windows Defender" and from my "bank." As a result, I had to close out my checking account, open a new one and inform the various companies for which we have autopay of the changes in account. Thankfully, I didn't lose any money, but I still feel stupid for having fallen for this nonetheless!
