My 8 year old son was on our home computer and all of a sudden a pop up came up with a terrible screeching noise and warning to not turn off the computer and that we had been hacked and to call Windows Online Support. I had turned off my computer and when I turned it back on the warning was still there. I hesitantly called the number which was 1-888-269-4181 and spoke to Chris Mendes who claimed that I had been hacked and that he would fix the issue but needed to take over control of my computer in order to do so. I was very leary but he was very convincing and said that he needed to install a free anti virus system on my computer. When I told him that I already had Mcaffee Security he told me that it isn't compatible with my computer etc. He had told me that he signed out of my email account but yet it kept showing that I indeed was not signed out like he claimed. He claimed that he had to give me a virtual IP address to keep me and my info safe and that he would have to encrpt it. He then asked me to type in my email address and as soon as I did he hung up. I called the number back and then what sounded like a woman with the name of Barry Billings answered the phone and I explained to her what had happened and that I was very suspicious of them and that I would report them to the ScamPulse.com and police etc. She who claimed to be a he was very persuasive and said that they are there to help and that she would fix the issue but would need to take control of the computer. She gave me the phone number of 213-788-5509 and told me that her employee ID number is MS1554. They both had installed Anti Hacking Total Securities on my computer and she also typed the following onto my computer fastsupport.com/815621784 and www.supremocontrol.com. When I said I was uneasy about the supremo control website that she typed in she said it was in my best interest to protect me and all of our other devices from cyber attacks and from stealing my identity etc. Then popped up a portion where she said "Ok now I just need you to enter your name, address, postal code and phone number." I said "No way!" "You shouldn't need all that to help me and I'm not giving it to you!" "And I'm going to report you to the ScamPulse.com and police!" She then got pissed off with me and said "you gave me access to control your info so I don't need all that cause now I know everything about you!" She then hung up. She had also inquired as to whether or not we had ever shopped at amazon.ca, ebay.ca, target.ca, sam's club, and best buy during the call. As soon as I got off the phone I locked my bank card, and called my internet provider and told them what happened. I was given a new IP address. I also ran a McAffee Security Scan and it said my computer wasn't compromised like they had claimed. I also uninstalled all the programs that these scammers had put on my computer and changed all of my passwords to the websites I frequent the most including my email password. Please catch these evil people and prevent them from doing this to other people. I never contacted the police but will call my bank and credit card company today to warn them and make sure that they don't have access to any of my info. Is there anything more that I should be doing?
