Minimal Lamp is a Dishonest Company
Ordering a Minimal Lamp was literally the worst (and most expensive) bad experience I have ever had online (in 20 years)! Beware:
1) Read the terms & conditions before ordering. On almost every day, they sell their lamp "on sale" for $159. This "not full price" transaction specifically eliminates your ability to return the product for a refund. Period.
2) Notice they say "don't return to shipper" - but they DO NOT provide a return address for sending back a defective or unwanted product. That's because the destination is in Germany. FYI, the Fed Ex cheapest rate to return the lamp in it's original shipping package is between $160 and $210.
3) Customer service basically lies. Over the course of more than 30 days communicating with customer service about a refund (starting ON THE SAME DAY THAT I PLACED THE ORDER) for one lamp that was purchased by mistake, I was told ONE HOUR after the order was placed, that the lamp shipment could not be stopped - but assured that I "can simply return it for a full refund." It arrived Fed Ex air from China about a week later. After some nice promises from Customer Service, confirming the full refund promise, I went to return the lamp without ever opening their package. Initially they gave me partial return address info (surprise: it's in Germany and "we know that can be difficult and costly our customers so we offer a half-price discount on the lamp"). Of course I had already bought the lamp for "half price" so that offer didn't apply.
4) I went to Fed Ex with the package and they deemed the return address info insufficient and refused to accept the parcel. When I asked customer service for complete info, it took days for a response, and they DID NOT tell me the lamp could be shipped less expensively. Only after I spent $210 to return a $159 lamp, customer service snarkily told me "you could have sent it for $30" That's it- that's all they said. Of course return shipping is not refundable at all.
Here is a partial list of the sequence of events:
a. customer service promised a full refund
b. I was finally (see above) able to ship the lamp to Germany with proper shipping info
c. the lamp arrived in Germany at "Receptionist desk": in THREE DAYS.
d. Inquiring a few days later, I was told to check "terms & conditions ... "we won't refund anything."
e. following days of sporadic contact with customer service, I was promised a 50% refund, and that that could only be sent to my bank after I provided routing info.
f. I complained strongly - after I clearly told them I would post a bad review, the same customer service agent (ALWAYS signed "Jevil") "checked with accounting" and 48 hours later told me a full refund would be applied to my bank.
g. after a week of no contact (and no transfer to bank) I asked customer service for status and after another round of waffling, was promised a refund to my VISA.
h. then, finally, ignored for another 10 days (for a total of over 30 days, I gave up on The Minimal Lamp - recognizing them as a fraudulent vendor.
I contacted my credit card company (Chase) and the agent quickly conveyed that this company is an "unfaithful merchant" and immediately (and permanently) reversed my original payment - which was never protested by The Minimal Lamp. By then, 45 days had passed.
The attitude throughout my communications with The Minimal Lamp was "we got you - tough luck"
FYI, I saw the product at someone's house - it is stupidly short in height, cheaply made, and emits lighting that reminds me of what you'd see in a college dorm room years ago.
Beware.
