Type of a scam Travel/Vacation/Timeshare
Despite her repeated promises of sending ticket info; etc; via text and e mail; on Dec 7th; I called Alaska airlines and tried to find our ticket info from them. I checked with 2 agents and the supervisor trying to find our names in their schedule. We did not exist on any flights. On Dec 9th; I sent e mails and text to Mary insisting on our flight information confirmation. She persisted in stalling; stating that she was on her way home from the office; I then started calling every few minutes to her cell#; and while I was talking to her; we were suddenly notified by our credit card security that an attempt had been made to charge $5,520.80 to our Costco credit card. When I asked her what is going on; she started talking extremely fast; blaming people in "Her Booking Department" (it doesn't exist; she has no employees; she works out of her home; her corporate looking web site is bogus) and she suddenly came back and tried to get over $1,126.40 more for the same exact flights I had approved days before; but that she had never booked. When I told her it was her responsibility and not mine; she refused to talk to me and hung up on me. My wife and I not only found that all the available seats had been booked up solid due to spring break; that if we want to fly business or first class we would now have to take flights with 12-24 hr layovers; and that economy coach was more likely what we would end up with for our trip. I called Alaska Customer service; and spoke to the supervisor; she stressed that this is part of a new scam going around where charges are made; no tickets are ever booked; and that in far too many cases the credit card numbers are sold to an offshore person who charges huge amounts of money to people's accounts. She urged me over and over to immediately call our credit card company to stop all charges to our accounts. I have done this; but we still have only extremely long airport layovers or flying only economy coach. Mary's e mails; text; all state that she was sending our travel documents any moment. We never received anything. Mary also insisted on a copy of both our passports on day 1 which we did send.. I am very much worried that this information might end up in the wrong hands. No other travel agent or airline asked for our passports. Now I also have to contact ICE officials to advise that our confidential passport information may have been compromised. My passport also has a security clearance sticker on the back. I have copies of all e mails and text correspondence; and time records on my phone of multiple phone calls to her as well. I intend to file a small claim action against her to recover our losses to straighten this all out; but feel very strongly that her better business records should be reviewed.
