Moving Company Scam Reports & Reviews (2)

- Aurora, CO, USA • Mar 28, 2024

The mover or broker doesn’t perform an on-site inspection of your household items and gives an estimate over the telephone or online — sight unseen.

The moving company demands cash or a large deposit before the move.

The mover or broker doesn’t provide you with a copy of the Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move booklet and a copy of FMCSA’s Ready to Move brochure, which movers are required by federal regulations to supply to their customers.

The company’s website has no local address and no information about their registration or insurance.

The mover claims all goods are covered by their insurance.

I saw an ad in FB Marketplace where they were giving away a YAMAHA baby grand piano for FREE. We are music lovers, and one of our children is really into piano, so this sounded like a fantastic opportunity! I inquired, and the person told me to write to her sister, Sandra O Blanca. I wrote to her, and she shared the following:

---

Thanks for your interest. The baby grand used to be owned and played by my husband, who happened to have played it last in August last year before his demise. Now, I am currently moving into a new place, and I do not have enough space to keep the piano and I do not want to sell it as it is a thing so dear to my late husband. So I decided to give it out to someone who is as passionate as my husband was about music and pianos. A lady who first showed interest in the piano didn't show up at the point of delivery when the movers moving my properties tried to deliver the piano to her, so I decided that the piano is going to be with the movers. If you do not mind making arrangements with the movers, I can get in touch with them in order to have them reroute it. I believe this shouldn’t cost you too much since the distance can be recovered in a day or two.... Apologies for the inconvenience.

Just so you know, I am not giving out a vestige or a waste, It's in a very good condition.

Thanks

Sandra

I fell for it. I continue my conversation and she shared the following:

“ I got through to the movers now letting them know they will move the piano. The rep I spoke with said you should go on their website at WWW.swiftmover.co and chat with an agent via the live chat on their website to initiate a reroute. She also said you should present this reference ID: PD23101DWF to the agent letting the agent know Sandra referred you. I would like you to reach out to them as soon as you can. I can remove the post on Facebook Marketplace. I will be waiting to hear from you on how it goes with movers.“

I started the conversation and everything happened as she said. That was the first red flag. How does she know all those many details?

The website and the chat looked legit! So legit that it was hard to figure out if I was interacting with a scammer. What made stop this is two things: The rep (Brent Trimble) said that I needed to pay through Zelle, Venmo or the cash app. I even said to him that I found that to be odd. He also said that he was going to send me an invoice after paying and later on he sent me an invoice.

All this happened close to midnight. Who does such a detail customer service at that time?

I started checking here and many other places about the legitimacy of this company and I couldn’t find anything sustainable to confirm I was dealing with a legit company. I checked on the map and it said that the company was located in Washington, DC, where one of the most prestigious hotels is. Also, I called and an Google answer machine responded. I decide to stop the conversations with them and make a report here.

Unfortunately, I shared my address, but I didn’t lose money. I hope this prevent someone else to fall for this scam.
