Type of a scam Moving
Leading up to moving day, we confirmed several times the price, any hidden fees and 8am start.
In the afternoon before Sunday Feb. 26th, we called to confirm time and charges; agreed, 2 movers and a truck for $180 for 4 hours. $300 deposit at the beginning and if we go over the time, the remaining cost will come out of the deposit. We had an understanding.
Moving day, the movers informed us that their start of shift was 9am and they will arrive in 40mins. We then received another text/call, another 22 mins delay. Movers did not arrive until 11:15am. 3 hours late.
At this time, we were asked for the deposit $300. Right after we handed the lead driver $300, he presented us with a contract, as he present us with them, he distracted me by saying it’s what was agreed upon. As we had several conversations and text messages we signed and started to help them move my belongings. As we were 3 hours delayed.
These two men were not professional with moving my belongings as they were dragging and dropping the items.
After the load up, as for terms, we had to follow them in our vehicle. We followed them to the next city as they called to say they need to stop for gas.
We pulled off the highway in Third Line, Oakville, Ontario.
After they filled up the U-haul they presented us with an invoice, $1247.52. We had to pay the remaining balance of: $947.52 before they would continue with the move.
I had another mover as a back up plan incase the movers were a no show. I called them to ask if they are available to come now to take the items from the U - Haul and move our items. They were not available until later in the evening. The gentleman asked, what’s the moving company called and he described the two gentleman to a tee and that we are being scammed and to call the police.
We called the Police stating, what has occurred up to this time. Police arrived but couldn’t help as the officer said this is a civil law suit. The officer said for both of us to be fair and to get my belongings to the final destination.
The movers lead us to a bank, to
Get the rest of the funds. We agreed to pay off the 947.52 and the rest once they arrived with my items to ensure they would not just take my belongings and leave.
We had taken out the remaining money at the bank and provided the movers with an additional $400 and agreed to provide the remaining balance once the movers delivered the items the final destination.
The movers had then taken off driving fast and reckless with no care for the items in the U-haul vehicle.
Once we arrived to the final destination, we paid the remaining balance to get our belongings back.
The movers were careless with moving the items into the home and to add we as a family did majority of removing the items from the truck to inside the home.
