I had been messaging michael to get his 2 yr old pup that he posted about a couple of weeks ago. although i am normally very wary of online scams and took measures to be careful, i was naively willing to trust the situation since we were able to get a signed contract and other documentation of the transaction. Paid a deposit and when it came time for delivery i started getting emails asking me to zelle $3000 to a random guy named brian jack who claimed to be part of the shipping company and did not receive any further updates from Michael. They said that due to a certain animal protection law they needed a "refundable" deposit through zelle to book the electronic dog transport carrier. When I asked Michael for more information he tried to persuade me that it was real by saying he had used the company before even though the company was full of scamming red flags (e.g. weird email structure, multiple phone calls, spelling mistakes, weird emails, fake law references, etc). When I looked up the number he provided in contact, scam websites started to pop up saying very similar things about the Debbie admin being a part of other similar scams online- even going so far as to use people’s obituaries to create profiles under fake names to scam people. Apparently photos on this page are from a breeder in vancouver canada. These admins have even sent people to random people’s addresses that are found on zillow in colorado to pick up dogs that don’t exist.
I've heard this is the case for MANY facebook groups that are structured like this and not just this group, but definitely anything over facebook that is going through zelle is a big scam red flag.
