Three successive technicians "tried to help" .
The first one told me the problem was my computer, not my printer.
The second one agreed.
The third one said he'd run some tests and he would call me back in 20 minutes. Did not ask for permission to access my computer. When he called back is there were a bunch of numbers and words on my screen. He asked me why I had not maintained my computer properly, that is had many problems and viruses. But not to worry, he would fix it all for me.
I asked the name of the company and through his thick East Indian accent I could not understand. So he wrote it. I double that it is the real name. When I hesitated, he put on the screen a large number of familiar logos (Yahoo, Yelp etc. and said they work with all of those..
When I asked if I should take my "sick" computer which had "killed my printer" to the APPLE store to be checked out, he said that the Apple store does not take care of network problems.
At no time was there mention of a fee for fixing my problem - until I asked. I said I had to verify his offer first, he kept pushing.
I tried to end the conversation and he told me I owed him for an hours work trying to fix my computer.
I hung up and disconnected my computer from the site.
I only hope that he did not infect my computer! Changed my computer password immediately.
P.S. Called Staples to ask about the error message on the printer. They said to clean the copy/scan surface before doing anything else. IT IS FIXED. gotoassist website pop-up
