I was texted via phone to renew health coverage plan for 2024. I share a plan with my mother and suspected nothing out of the usual. After I called, they asked me for my plan # and member ID# and proceeded to tell me the only way to continue my plan was to pay an outstanding fee of 360$. I questioned the fee and they said it was from a law that came from April 2023 and related to COVID. I have my card and did not dispute because I was under the impression I’d lose my current health care plan. After I called customer service, I could not get any answers to specific questions regarding my policy, despite the person on the phone saying that my ability to be refunded would depend on my policy. I am currently in the process of disputing the charge but my bank seems to think that I am unlikely to get my $359 back.
