* that they remove them and keep them on file for "warranty purposes", since they provide their own warranty on the products they sell in lieu of the manufacturer warranty;
* that I would not be allowed to have a copy or the serial numbers, since the warranty is non-transferrable and my registration would void it;
* that this is more convenient for customers anyway, since they no longer need to register serial numbers or deal with warranty problems; and
* that since they sell below retail price and are not an authorized dealer, this is how MartinLogan "prefers" they do business.
This story is transparently false, especially since MartinLogan asks consumers not to buy from unauthorized dealers at all.
The speakers appear to be legitimate, first-party articles, but sourced via grey market channels; since the speakers are made in China, perhaps this is a case of "third shift" manufacturing. In any case, without serial numbers, these speakers cannot be authenticated or warrantied, and who knows if my insurance would cover their loss.
