Scam was pretending to alert me to an outstanding balance for having driven on a California toll road. I WAS near a toll road within the past week, but never took that route. Since I'm rarely near a toll road, I wonder if scammers are somehow able to tell who has been in toll road vicinity.

Received this text, but do not take any toll roads nor have traveled to states using Sunpass: “California toll services: We've noticed a balance of $11.69 remaining on your record. To prevent a late fee of $50.00, please visit https://ncsunspasstollservices.com to settle your invoice.”

At 4:19pm (PT) on Saturday, April 27, 2024, I received a text message from 306-409-0202 that read as follows: "California toll services: We've noticed an outstanding balance of $11.69 on your record. To prevent a late fee of $50.00, please visit https://ncsunspasstollservices.com to settle your invoice." I did NOT click on the link, but went on to a computer to bring up the link, which would not load from my computer. I dialed the number and saw that it was from Saskatchewan, and hung up. I texted back, "We have NOT been over any California toll roads/bridges and do NOT have any outstanding balances. You are FRAUD and are being reported." I then blocked the number from my cell phone. I afterwards tried calling the same number from a blocked landline number and the phone just rang and then had a recording of, "Your call has been forwarded to a voicemail service that has not been initialized." I hung up and did not leave a message.
