I got a text message about secret shopper for Walmart and that I would make $300. I need to deposit OFFICIAL CHECK in the amount of $1370.00 into my checking account keeping & 300 for myself. I was to purchase health & beauty item I would use as well as two $500 gift cards. It had FAKE/FRAUD all over it!

This is the previously described Walmart Secret Shopper scam. Received a letter from Task Manager Mr. Michael Horvatin, showing the Walmart logo explaining what I was to do with the check for $1650.00 enclosed in the Priority Mail envelope.

I received a text message that I had registered on SurveyMonkey for an upcoming Wal-Mart Survey in my city. I had been selected ($300 per survey) and would receive package by USPS. Signed Steven Galington, Neighborhood Research, Inc. When it came in the mail, sent priority mail from Orlando Florida, it contained a " check" for $1,870 and a letter of instruction with the ruler name of Steven Garlington, Task Manager. Yes, the spelling of Steven's last name had changed! It had the name Wal-Mart on top. I was, among other things to buy 3 $500 gift cards, scratch the back of each card, take pictures of all three, along with the receipt and forward them to a number, via text message. I was also supposed to comment on whether the cashier said Welcome to Walmart, friendliness cleanliness of store and rest rooms, efficiency of cashier, etc!! When I looked at check, there was no watermark. I texted back that I wanted to know how I could confirm this was legit. My answer was it's real and legitimate. I asked again how I could confirm and I did not get a reply. I informed them I was reporting this. Upon further investigation, I saw the same scam occurred several months ago in Richmond and was reported on local news. I will keep all the information if any further is needed.

I received a letter along with a check through priority mail. The letter stated I was pre-qualified to take part in the Neighborhood Secret Shopper program. I will be evaluating Wal-Mart. The check is to be deposited into my account and in 24hours the funds will be available. $300 is for my participation and the rest is to purchase gift cards. The store activities is to evaluate the door greeter,the cashier, restroom and transactions time. After I made the purchase to send a picture of receipt and scratched gift cards by text. I'm not to make the cashier aware of the evaluation. It also instructed for me to text received and processed once I received the package and made the deposit.

Received 2 day priority mail with a check for $1670.00 from Pelican State credit union. Letter says I’ve been prequalified to take part in Neighborhood Research. They want me to buy 3 Walmart gift cards scratch off the back and send a pic of the info.

Initial text was sent asking me to confirm receipt of text and confirm that I would indeed be willing to participate in survey. The next day I received a text alerting me of a USPS package coming with instructions to be a secret shopper at Walmart. Odd coincidence is, I had indeed signed up to do surveys with Survey Junkie and had opted to be a secret shopper! I received a check for $1750, told to buy personal items not more than $50, two $500 gift cards and one $400 gift card. Outside of the instructions telling me to rate the customer service and notate names and behaviors of employees, there were no additional instructions on sending the gift cards purchased to someone. Of course it sounded to good to be true, so I did not follow through.

I received a text stating that I was selected to be a Secret Shopper for Walmart. I received a cashiers check in 2 days with a letter with instructions and congratulating me on being selected. The amount was $1,370.00 and everything look legit until I noticed the bank that the check was drawn from. It seemed suspicious because if this a legit company why would they be using Educational Systems FCU. They wanted me to keep $300 for compensation, $70 to purchase items and then buy Wal-Mart gift cards with the rest of the money. Once I bought the Wal-Mart gift cards I was to scratch and take a pic of the number and send it to them.

I was texted that I could make $300 by secret shopping Walmart. They FedEx'd the check. However, the check was made out for $1890.00 and I was instructed to purchase several gift cards for hundreds of dollars each. Not sure how or why, but pretty sure it's a scam. I am not going to deposit the check but instead either void it or send it back. Any suggestions?

I received a text message about some surveys and that I would have a letter coming in the mail. The letter said I was selected to be a secret shopper for Walmart and included a fake check for $*** and I was asked to send money grams to certain people.

Walmart I was supposed to be a secret shopper I was asked to cash a check for$1850.00 and to send money walmart to walmart $730 toGeorge Woolsey in Dallas Tx and $730money gram tranfer to Oscar Bartnik also in Dallas Tx.I was to keep $300 for my participation.

I have received 2 texts, a letter and a check to be a mystery shopper at Walmart. They sent me a check for $1,670. After a deposit it I had to go to Walmart and purchase $70 in personal items and then $1,300 in gift cards. Then I had to complete a questionnaire and scratch the back of the gift cards and send pictures.

Walmart secret shopper scam. Sent check for $1,870 drawn on *** federal credit union *** NY.

Instructions to deposit check into my account. Once done to make a purchase at walmart for under $50 and evaluate the cashier. Second part to make 2 walmart2walmart money gram transfers of $740 ea.

These were to go to John Tresnack and Henry Mertille in Round Rock, TX.

I did not fall for this.

I received an overnite priority letter with a check enclosed in the amount of 1,570.00. Instructions were to buy 4 gift cards, spend 70.00 on personal use and keep 300.00 for myself as compensation for participating in the consumer evaluation. they used a reputable survey company in the text stating Survey Monkey for your participation in a Walmart Survey in my area,

My husband received a letter to become a secret shopper. Enclosed was a check $1,670.00. Instructions were to go to Walmart and purchase no more than $70 in items and report back to them how the cashier acted. Thank to go back and purchase $1,300.00 in Wal-Mart gift card in the denominations of $500, $400, and $400 and than send scratch off the code on back and take a picture of it and send it to them.

The credit union is real, I spoke to them, however was told the check is not.
