- Mount Washington, KY, USA

I bought a net gear Internet extender. Used the get started pamphlet in the box. Followed the instructions and it would not connect. Then tried the website www.mywifiext.net in the booklet. After getting on the web page live chat came up and said they noticed I was having trouble getting my device connected and offered to help. After typing with them. They said they were also having trouble. They asked if they could call me to help. I gave them my cell number and they called. Brian Carter asked if I would allow him to access my computer. I allowed him in my computer. He then tried to set up my extender and said it wasn’t working so he went deeper in my computer and found things turned off that needed to be turned on. He ended up showing someone was on there accessing Porn sites. He said he could clean that off. He then proceeded to tell me he needed to change my IP address. And did so. I agreed to pay him when the work was done. One hour later he called back and said they were done. Then he proceeded to show me three different packages that I could purchase to include antivirus anti malware anti spyware anti Trojan anti Hatcher. He also told me our cell phones, printer, router, tv, Alexa, Roku, firestick, kids devices, Facebook, instagram, TikTok, etc would be protected. So he showed me three plans License key 1: 399.99 for network firewall security for 3 years License key 2: 799.99 network firewall for 6 years plus free support for 6 years and License key 3: 999.99 network firewall security for lifetime free support for life time for all devices service calls every 6 months covers new devices and is transferable to the new IP address and tech visits every 6 months. So I agreed to License key 3, then he popped up a page that allowed me to put my name address and credit card info on it. He also told me I could use PayPal. I don’t have a PayPal account so I used my credit card. Luckily my card kept getting rejected. So he let me go since it was after 5pm and told me he would call me the next day (today) about 9am. He did call multiple times But I didn’t answer. So I called my credit card company first thing this morning to find out why it would not go through. They told me it sounded like a scam, and checked, luckily it never showed up on their end. I had to cancel my credit card and have a new one issued. I had to call my Internet carrier and have my modem username and password reset. I have had to change all my passwords, and may have to replace my computer. I took. Pictures of my computer screen to keep a record.
