I searched on the term 'linksys support' an instead of the paid advertising being clearly marked on the top of the search listings as they are on Google I selected what I thought was the Linksys website and called the 800 number. 1-800-243-1403. The person who answered told me he worked for Linksys and we proceeded to have him help me upgrade the firmware on my wireless router.
It was only AFTER I downloaded a remote control software application that he began explaining how my modem and router did not have firewalls and how there were several hundred people currently using my network and viewing my information. I realized that this person was not with Linksys and disconnected and contacted the real Linksys. Had I not been so distracted by other events of the day I would have figured this out well before interacting with him.
I would like to know if this is a legitimate business who was just hoping to capitalize on helping me as a Linksys representative or if I have been compromised my network by downloading their app (I have since uninstalled it and run malware software to test for malicious software).
