Last night a woman was going door to door in our neighbor hood in Waukee, IA claiming that she was enrolled in a program call NEW IMAGE to help build self confidence and speaking skills to sound more literate. She was African American and gave a first name of Krystaline (not sure of the spelling). She claimed that she had lost a baby due at 24 weeks due to an abusive boyfriend. She showed us pictures of the baby and pictures of her older daughter. She said she wanted to go to nursing school so she could help battered women and that she wanted to set an example for her daughter that just because "you come from the hood, doesn't mean you can't get out of the hood". She was selling charitable magazine subscriptions and said you could choose the charity you want them sent to. The minimum donation amount was $360 for 3 years worth of magazines sent to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Iowa. I cannot find any information on NEW IMAGE online. Several of my neighbors also gave her donations. She only accepted checks - no credit/debit cards - which I found to be suspicious. I am going to place a stop payment on my check and have advised my neighbors to do the same.
