We were looking to buy a pug puppy. There were pictures online and we inquired. We received a text and an email. When asked via text if they would provide the website to their business, they got defensive. It was in their email though. Had reviews and shipping info. They asked for payment via Venmo to “friends and family” not to a business. First red flag I ignored. It was my first Venmo payment so I didn’t know. Then Venmo put the payment on hold for 21 days and the breeder said that they couldn’t wait 21 days. Suspicious! So we went through 24hrs of hassle with Venmo and our bank trying to cancel payment (which is not possible through Venmo when paid to friends/family) and meanwhile the breeder is asking us to cancel and provide another means of payment. When we finally get through to a Venmo Customer service rep, they identified that this customer has done this before.
