Type of a scam Bank/Credit Card Company Imposter
Someone with an Indian accent answered the call, offered me a $100 voucher that I would be able to “use in any retail store like Walmart, Target, Kroger etc” and I only had to pay $1.99 to receive it in 7-10 business days. She asked for my name, phone number, mailing address, email address and my credit card number and I don’t remember if they asked for SSN.
I gave all that info.
after 10 days I didn’t get anything and called the number again ( that’s when I realized it wasn’t Capital one) I explained that I paid for the voucher and didn’t receive anything.
this time a man answered he had an Indian accent. He asked for my card info again, I refused to provide it and asked if they are with Capital one, he got irritated and told me they “are with several businesses” and he asked again for my card information. I hung up and called a second time, this time a woman answered.
They don’t identify themselves when you call, once again I asked if they are with Capital one, she didn’t answer my question, was giggling and then I disconnected the call.
They took $1.99 to “send the voucher” and per my bank they attempted several times to charge that amount, last time they tried to charge $44.99 that’s when I contacted CApital one to change my card. Also my bank sent me a fraud alert.
Per my bank, The number is linked to a company by the name API (American Petroleum institute).
If you Google that number you will read several complaints about that business and most of the customers thought they were dealing with Capital one (some misdialed the number as well).
I reported the issue to Capital one twice.hopefully someone will stop those scammers!!!
