I received an email that said I had been charged $488. for a year’s worth of Norton Security on my computer. When I called the number on the bottom of the letter, I was directed to my computer to delete the paid security system so I could be refunded. Then, through a series of stupid maneuvers on my part, I was tricked into transferring money from my savings to my checking account, since I had been “mistakenly overpaid by 10,000.” I went to the bank, as directed, to withdraw $7,500. and take it to the BBB here in town. At this point, I finally grew uncomfortable enough to go into the bank and talk with them, at which point I discovered I had compromised my bank account. The account was immediately closed, and they helped me to deposit the money back into my account.
