Type of a scam Employment
Of course, my daughters were beyond excited that they might be able to audition for a TV show, what kid wouldn't be? I looked over the email and it seemed somewhat legit. So I signed them up, waiting to see when the company was going to ask for money that I didn't have. I was surprised that they were both accepted with no mention of money. They received a choice of scripts to practice that looked like they would be auditioning for real commercials. There was one for Cheerios, one for Nike, and one for Subway. The girls practiced their hearts out all day getting ready for the audition. They sacrificed time with their friends to get ready. When the zoom meeting finally came on, we were shown executives pitching how great their company was, along with videos of a 2-day class, held for potential actors. At the end, when they were finally sent for the actual audition, it was nearly an hour and a half later that we had sat through basically a sales pitch, even though they still didn't mention money.
They went to the individual zoom rooms and auditioned. Afterward, the person on the screen said that if they were accepted, they would receive a callback for another zoom meeting the following day.
My daughters were over the moon excited. They went to their friends, house but couldn't stop texting me all through the evening asking if I had gotten an email yet. When I finally got the email and read over it before texting them, I was glad I did. This company wasn't offering any spots in commercials. They were recruiting for their talent agency to train potential actors, for a fee of 975 for the basic package, 1975 for the next level, and 3975 for the top level.
I was astonished. They had never mentioned money during the entire hour and a half that I now realized was nothing more than a sales pitch. It was the same scam that timeshare sellers use. Get people in, give them a little bit, show them how great everything is, then sell them into financial slavery.
Of course I'm not able to come up with that kind of money. I'm the only one working in a household of 5 and we live paycheck to paycheck.
I had to give the girls the gutwrenching news that it didn't matter they got a callback, there was no way we could afford it.
Listening to my daughters cry was more than I could stand.
This company played on the hopes and dreams of kids to get as much money out of the parents as possible. As far as I'm concerned, that is the lowest form of life. There's no way they should be able to boast that they have a AAA+ ScamPulse.com rating. As far as I'm concerned, they should be out of business. The very least they could do is post the prices up front so that parents like myself don't put their kids through that kind of torment of getting their hopes up only to have them obliterated because of some greedy company. Falsely advertising that they were casting for commercials, when they clearly were not, should be some kind of criminal fraud charge.
Imagine your kid getting so excited over something and then realizing it's not going to happen. How would you feel watching tears stream down their face in disappointment?
I wonder how many other parents were put through this same hell, only didn't report this sham of a company. I'm sure it's a lot.
