CHARGED 3.95 TO RECEIVE 2 GIFT CARDS VIA MAIL I HAVEN'T RECEIVED
The man greeted me as an Ally Bank customer service representative though there was something vaguely unpolished about it. He proceeded to ask for the full card number, name on the card, expiration and CVV number, along with my name, birth date, address and email. After giving him all the aforementioned information he then had me repeat it after a beep sounded (I realized I was being recorded). He then had me write down a "confirmation number" and gave me another phone number (18006278372) to call.
By now my suspicions were pretty high. I called the number the guy gave me and it took me to the what sounded like (and probably was) the legitimate Mastercard help center. After going through the automated Mastercard help line I was then forwarded to the Ally Bank general customer support line (also automated). At this point before I activated the card I figured out that it was probably a scam and that the fraudsters were waiting for me to activate the card now that they had collected all the card information. I verified that the number I dialed originally matched the sticker on the card exactly (I didn't get the number wrong). The craziest thing is that when I called the number back it put me through to the actual Ally Bank automated card activation menu rather than going to the fraudsters.
Anyway, I called the Ally Bank support number on their website to speak with an actual representative and they confirmed that it was almost certainly fraud and canceled the card I had been mailed (it was never activated so I think I'm safe). Meanwhile, while I was on the phone with the real Ally customer service rep I got four alerts for declined charges to my checking account in the amount of $3.99 for "1PERKPLACE 8889414852" (the charges were shown as being from Connecticut even though I live several states away).

The rep told me I had to listen to an automated message, which turned out to be One Perk Place, who subsequently charged me $1.95. If I don't cancel within 15 days, they will start charging $19.99 a month. Xfinity is doing an "investigation" to find out why their employee is involved. This is a scam!
