I was approached by MediaMark Productions. They were claiming to be a PR firm out of Toronto and working with Visa. They were looking for content creators and influencers to help promote a new PrePaid Visa campaign. They asked for my media kit, we talked about rates, and they sent me contract. we agreed they would pay me an initial amount of money before I created content then the remainder after. I received a cheque in the mail from them for $4900 and deposited the money via my mobile app. That is when they began asking for more information from me like a screenshot of the deposit, my drivers license, and passport so we could proceed. I declined, they asked for the money from the cheque back. I called my bank and they said the cheque looked fine and it would go through. The following day, I took the cheque to the bank (TD) that had issued the cheque and they confirmed it was indeed fraudulent. I then drove to my bank and showed them, and they placed a hold on the cheque. I then went to the police station and filled out a report. The people posing at MediaMark had an entire organization including a marketing manager, payroll, and a website that looked completely legitimate at first glance. They phoned me a couple of times and insisted I needed to send through ID to verify my identity. When I declined, they said I was in breach of my contract and asked for the fake money back.
