Type of a scam Tech Support
10,999 files corrupted. He said he was transferring me immediately to their tech support department to remove the virus. I asked, "What's koobface?" He said, "I'll show you". My cursor arrow clicked on Google ( by itself, I was not operating my computer at that point) and it immediately brought me to the Wiki definition of koobface, which was only on my screen for a few seconds, giving me no time to read it. I allowed them into the computer to fix the problem through a "Go to Assist" site . I was charged $153.73 put on my credit card. Instead of fixing it, they uploaded Spyware, Malware and a program that removed sensitive files, one of which had my husband's SSN#. After a few hours, I began to feel uneasy about the whole experience, so I called Dell. They said they never did any work on my computer, nor would they ever contact me stating I had any problems. They ultimately removed everything the hackers had done. I called the credit card company and explained the situation, but the charge was already pending. I cancelled that account immediately and the charge is currently in dispute. I've filed a complaint with the FTC and the IRS, and alerted the credit monitoring agencies. This has truly been a nightmare!
