They found me on the Internet and they began to talk to me and want me to marry them but I had to give a lot of money in gift cards and I was hurt and I wanted to [REDACTED] for it.

Met on eharmony and moved to texting, phone calls and even Skype and lastly GoogleMeet. Said he was in Vermont on business, but had just moved there from Pennsylvania. But then later said I was confused he lived in Pennsylvania near me was in Vermont on business and his mom owns a home there. Said he was born in Leon France, moved to Vermont when he was 5. He moved to France when he was older and then just moved back to the US following his divorce. He was self employed and had taken over his father’s business after his passing a few years ago. He divorced after he caught his wife and his best friend in bed when he came home early. Seemed very genuine and we talked a lot in the phone daily. He was soon traveling to Portugal to oversee a project he had there; said it would be finishing up in a few months and after that he had zero plans to work outside the US again because he was ready to settle down again. We FaceTimed before he left and talked about meeting and dating when he returned. This all happened in the early days of COVID. After he got to Portugal he called to let me know he landed and again it all seemed on the up and up. After a few days he called me upset because one of the workers was injured and he was at the hospital and then realized his wallet had been lost somewhere between the site and the hospital. He said he was so distracted by what was happening with his worker that he must have lost it then. His bank account was then locked down because of the lost credit cards and he wouldn’t be able to straighten it out until he returned to the US so could I help him out. Initially it was $1000 then more and more. I contacted police and submitted a scam claim with the FBI but nothing ever came of that - in all my searching I never found him on a scammer website, so I thought maybe it’s not a scam and he is telling me the truth.

I took out loans to help, tapped into my 401K etc. all because I believed he was in love with me and we were going to have this amazing life and he would take care of me and my kids and we’d never have to worry about money. Every time I spoke to him - same voice, definitely had an accent which to me did sound French. Eventually he had me working to open accounts so his banker could move money out of his locked account into another account so I could buy bitcoin and send him his money. Somehow despite my questions and refusal, he’d always have an explanation and it would make sense to a point. Even had his “banker” call me to out me at ease. He would always promise to make it right and pay me back everything he owes me and told me how grateful he is for my help. Said that even if we don’t continue with a relationship he would still come to see me and pay me back everything he owes me. He took a considerable amount of money from me and made me take loans out which I have slowly been paying back and I’m trying to get back on my feet. The money from my 401k is gone though…I only gave him a small fraction of it, but I’m left with the taxes on it that I can’t pay. Every time I’d confront him that he was scamming me he would get upset that I couldn’t trust him and he would use my trust issues from past relationships to say that at some point I need to trust that he’s different from those previous men and I could trust him. I fell in love with him and I truly believed he was in love with me as well; and it became devastating and stressful to me because I wanted so much to believe that he loved me. Ultimately I refused to “help” anymore and he basically asked me if I was ever going to believe in him and when I said that I needed more “proof” from him and that without it I couldn’t trust him. He responded with “okay” and I haven’t heard from him since.

Romance scam. Met girl on tinder. Immediately after that we moved to telegram to communicate. Girl would say good morning and have normal conversations with me. Soon enough she said she is a crypto investor and I should check out whats shes doing. She would tell me when to trade and it was always a win. I made a small withdrawal that worked. When I went to withdraw more money the platform (coburnvanlines.com) said that my account wasnt verified and looks suspicious as it was anonymous. I had to pay 25% of my holdings which was about $100000 to have an investigation on my account free from "money laundering". Then when I went to make a withdrawal they said I had to pay 8% of my account balance for taxes up front and this is when I refused to continue and I had realized I was being scammed. The website also goes by the name of Cobu. Cobu was available as an app in the apple play store but soon after disappeared. There were so many red flags but I was making so much money I kept going. Dont become a victim! I lost my entire life savings including early distributions from my ROTH IRA and traditional IRA and also I have two personal loans im responsible for now for $25000 each. Horrible.

Lured my on as a potential match on a dating site
