The scam is back and knocking door to door in Dallas. I collected as much info as possible from the two young ladies at my front stoop to report to local authorities, news, and the FTC—but local residents should beware.

They claim to be foster kids aging out of the system, doing sales for Optimum Reading Services to earn enough for housing.

All online info about the supposed entity is related to charity fraud, essentially theft through deception—impersonating a charitable organization.

To get the perpetrator’s account info, I made a small donation through a digital cash app and then cancelled through my bank immediately after.

However, it seems many have fallen victim to this criminal scheme over many years and across many state lines.

Beware the appeal to pathos! The perpetrators claim to be at risk, disadvantaged youths in need, at least the two in my neighborhood. I’ve now read of other “sales” personnel claiming to be reformed convicts doing charity work.

This group is an illegitimate entity engaging in a fraud scheme. Report has been made to local authorities and news agency for public notice and investigation.

If you fall victim, just remember that digital transactions are traceable and often can be cancelled while pending if you call your bank to report the deception. Make your friends, family and neighbors aware to help protect them from being defrauded, especially tender hearted individuals more vulnerable to these schemes than others!

Tonight/early evening a Black woman about 30ish came to my residence soliciting Magazine Subscription and I could pick where they were to be sent. I chose Highlight Magazine Childrens Hospital. Min contribution was $120 plus $20= $140.00, I got duped and gave a personal check. She provided a fake receipt with address of business of 3820 Happy Vally Road, Glendale, Az. 85310. Of course tugged my heart with stories of how she was trying to make a difference. No car, was dropped and supposedly to be picked up at an agreed burger location. These solicitors Have to have permits by your local Police - Demand to see it and look closely for authenticity, current and local municipality all as you know. Shame this happens in the world!

Raynika gave me a sob story about earning money and being a single mom. Slick. When I texted her to cancel she became nasty.

Scam entered on behalf of consumer by ScamPulse.com Employee: Hello,

I seem to have fallen for a scam for door-to-door magazine sales to charities. I live in Palo Alto, California. I was convinced on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 by the salesperson to give money. He said his mother was killed and that he was supporting his son. He said that some neighbors were closing their doors on him and that maybe they were racists. He really made us feel guilty. He showed me other neighbors' checks from nearby streets.

I learned too late after researching the company online and seeing ScamPulse.com reviews that it was probably a scam. I ended up giving $40 cash and a check for $300 for donation of magazines to several charities including Make-A-Wish and a hospital. I stopped payment on the check and don't really care to pursue any resolution for the $40. I just want to report the information here because I do not have complete contact information to go through the ScamPulse.com website for a complaint. On a ScamPulse.com live chat exchange, I was told that I could pass you whatever information I had through this email. Apparently, there were more posts on Next Door about the same or a similar person going around Los Alto, California a few days ago, so I have also alerted the Palo Alto police department based on advice that they might be casing my house or neighborhood too.

This individual is going around the neighborhood - seeking for magazine subscriptions - not for you but for organizations such as St. Jude, McDonald Hospital, Make a Wish Foundation, and other notable organizations. Their sales pitch is that these reading materials will enrich kids experience and help with their education. Hints that alert that this is fraud is, there are no official broachers with contact information for the organization, they ask for absurd amount of contribution 4-10 subscriptions with each ranging about $100 each. Absolutely no name card. The individual will ask you for cash/check contribution. Reference materials used are pulled from different resources. Highly urge you not to fall for this scam.
