Report on Fraudulent Website Impersonating VLM Containers

Date: Friday, June 14, 2024

1. Introduction

This report outlines the findings and evidence of a fraudulent website (https://conteneurs-vlm.com) that is impersonating our company, VLM Containers, and engaging in online scams by selling containers under false pretenses. This report is submitted to authorities for immediate action to prevent further victimization and protect the reputation of VLM Containers.

2. Information

Fraudulent Website URL: https://conteneurs-vlm.com

3. Findings

3.1. Google Search Results

Through extensive research, it was discovered that multiple websites use the same images, indicating that scammers replicate different companies' brands and information to create fraudulent websites. These websites use the same images to scam users online. Examples include:

• Facebook Image

• Allian Containers

• Cleveland Containers

• Conteneur EMS

• Contenedores Salamanca SL

3.2. Phone Number on the Website

The website lists the phone number +1 438 238-8524. Upon calling, a person answered in French. When asked to speak to Matthew, CEO of VLM Containers, they responded they were not Matthew and inquired if I wanted to buy a container. They suggested continuing via email and provided the email address [email protected].

You can find screenshots of this at the end of the evidence file.

3.3. Footer Year

The footer of the website displays "2022 © Conteneur vlm- Tout droits réservés," suggesting the scammers have been operational since at least 2022.

3.4. Footer of the Checkout Page

On the checkout page (link), the footer references another website, "Conteneur EMS," implying that the scammers have created multiple fraudulent websites. They forgot to update the footer to reflect VLM, revealing that they have created multiple websites and the pattern of using actual brand names to scam people.

The name of the other company is "Conteneur EMS," described as follows:

"Conteneur EMS offers rental and sale services for maritime containers (20', 40', and 53') in the Trois-Rivières and Centre-du-Québec region. We also provide indoor (non-heated) and outdoor storage solutions and transportation services for various goods across Quebec. Contact us for a quote based on your needs."

On the EMS payment page (link), another logo ("Blue Container") suggests even more affected companies.

3.5. Domain Owner

Attempts to find the domain owner revealed they went to great lengths to hide this information. Here’s what was found:

• Domain: CONTENEURS-VLM.COM

• Registry Domain ID: 2825721564_DOMAIN_COM-VRSN

• Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited

• Nameservers: NS1.DNS-PARKING.COM, NS2.DNS-PARKING.COM

• Dates:

o Registry Expiration: 2024-10-30

o Updated: 2023-11-22

o Created: 2023-10-30

• Registrant Contact Information: Privacy Protect, LLC (PrivacyProtect.org)

4. Conclusions and Thoughts

1. Pattern of Fraudulent Activity:

o The use of identical images and descriptions across multiple websites indicates a coordinated effort to scam users. This pattern suggests that the scammers have a well-established process for creating and managing these fraudulent sites.

2. Multiple Affected Companies:

o The scammers use various company names (e.g., Conteneur EMS) and logos (e.g., Blue Container), implying that multiple businesses are being impersonated. This widespread impersonation can lead to significant reputational damage and financial loss for the affected companies.

3. Sophisticated Deception:

o The scammers have taken steps to obscure their identities by using privacy protection services for domain registration and creating multiple contact points (phone numbers and email addresses) to appear legitimate. The inclusion of specific regional details in the descriptions further enhances the illusion of legitimacy.

4. Potential for Significant Financial Loss:

o The fraudulent website’s checkout process highlights the potential for users to be defrauded. Customers who believe they are purchasing containers could lose substantial amounts of money without receiving any goods in return.
