I was cold-emailed by someone impersonating Alexis Otto with Energy Done saying they were shortlisted me for an interview for a remote work opportunity. The email address was [email protected]. I participated in an interview via Telegram with someone impersonating David Martin, a supposed hiring manager. I gave them my address, but did not fill out any forms they had given me as part of their “onboarding process.” They sent me a check via FedEX from Ontario, California. I mistakenly deposited the check via mobile, but did not withdraw any funds. I immediately called my bank and informed them what was happening and, thankfully, they were able to figure out what was going on and gave me information on how to keep my account active.
