I received VoyaGear wildlife cameras as a gift from my wife. They weren’t exactly what I wanted, and when we contacted the company to initiate a return we clearly dealt with a non-native English speaker.
In addition, they told us that we would only receive half our money back since the cameras were on sale as a two-for-one deal and therefore would not get the full amount that we paid. This makes no sense of course. They also told us that their facility in the US was “closed for renovations”, so we would have to send the cameras back to China as well as pay to send them. They said it was important that we indicate the package value to be $10, even though my wife paid $260 for the cameras. If we failed to do that they said they might not receive the package. Sidenote: the address they gave us was to be addressed to an individual by the name of Grace Woo.
We pressed them on all of this over numerous emails and asked to speak directly with someone, which never happened. They finally gave us a US address in California but added a 15% restock fee, which was obviously intended to pay for them to send it back to China themselves. When we mapped the CA address it was a random house.
We have since disputed the charge with our credit card company which refunded the full amount back to us.
Our leaders in DC need to do a better job of protecting consumers and having safeguards against fake companies claiming to be US-based when they are not.
