Apartment listing was on several websites. After paying application fee and hold fee, family decided to not take the apartment. First, I was told there wouldn't be a refund. I sent them the payment confirmation and proposed lease they sent via email confirming the previous payments were refundable. They requested additional funds to issue the refund. I accidentally overpaid, and was told I had to pay interest to get my money back. I paid and went to Fall River twice to get my refund and they were too busy to provide it. I was told my money nearly doubled in value and that I would receive $10k, then $15k if I paid more interest. I told them I didn't want the interest. They threatened to donate my money to an orphanage. Then, the last offer was to pay a new $500 admin fee for them to refund my money on Cash App or Zelle. I declined. I reported the accounts I paid on both payment platforms for fraud and filed a police report.
