Type of a scam Online Purchase
On 10/18/20, my girlfriend and I sent them $800.00 through Zelle (me $500.00 and her $300.00). I was sent an email from another (fake) shipping company (Express Frigori Logistics), with initial information, advising the puppy was going through initial screening and checks, and the flight would be the next morning. No specific time was given, but the email advised once all the screening was done, we would receive an updated tracking email. Up to this point, everything seemed very legit, on the surface, and we have no feelings that we were being scammed.
The next morning (10/19/20), at 5:49 AM, I received another email from the "shipping" company, saying we needed to front another $1,200.00, that was "full refunded upon delivery of the pet." Besides the ludicrous number, the most suspicious part was that this email said, "WE ADVISE YOU MAKE THIS PAYMENT FOR HER VACCINES THROUGH YOUR SENDER MR ADRIAN MICHAEL MCCOY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO SHE DOESN'T MISS HER FLIGHT." I called the seller, telling him we did not have that kind of additional money, and why couldn't he pay the amount, since it would supposedly be refunded back to him 100%. He said he also didn't have the money.
I got off the phone with him, and a short while later, texted him that we would not be able to pay the amount and we would like our $800.00 back. The puppies were all advertised with a 100% money back guarantee on the website. Needless to say, we have not received any money back, and likely won't get anything, since funds sent through Zelle are not protected like with other payment processors or debit/credit card transactions.
I have reported him to Wells Fargo, Chase, and Zelle, as well as filed a police report with LAPD. There's no guarantee he will be caught, but I hope reporting this helps others to not fall victim to the same scam.
