She called and told me I was able to get a back support for my back and massage braces for my legs from Medicare for free. Somehow they knew I had back problems and leg problems, so I thought that would be great. She told me they had a doctor who would send the order over to Medicare. I know better but she needed my medicare number and I gave it to her. At the end I said I didn't want it, she said okay. Now I am worried what they can do with my medicare number. I called that number today and the operator said that number was invalid.

I have received numerous recorded messages over the past month saying that I am eligible for braces for back, neck, shoulder, foot, and leg pain. I have always hung up on these calls as I don't have any painful conditions and I figured it was a robocall and a scam. However, I picked up a call this week coming from our local area code with a live person speaking--a woman with a heavy foreign accent--who asked if I had received my new Medicare card (I said "yes") and then she told me that there is a new Medicare benefit for which I'm eligible. I explained that I have a Medicare Advantage plan, so everything I get is handled through it. She didn't seem to understand and quizzed me several times about who the carrier is. She then began quizzing me about whether I am experiencing pain in various areas of my body--ankles, feet, knees, hips, arms, shoulders. I denied having pain anywhere except occasionally in my shoulders after I've lifted weights in my daily workout sessions--but I said it always goes away within a couple of days. She immediately jumped on that and said that I would be eligible for a shoulder brace. It would have to be cleared by my doctor (she knew his name and street location) and that another doctor would call me the next day mid-day and that I should be sure to be available to take the call. I hung up and within an hour she called back. My husband picked up the phone and it was the same woman--he told her I wasn't home, so she called again within another hour or so. In the meantime, I had googled the phone number that she had called from and found numerous comments from people complaining about a Medicare scam dealing with medical braces--so I blocked the number. She called from a different number. This time I told her I had no interest in their product as I had no condition that needed treatment and also I knew that she wasn't really representing Medicare and that this was a scam. (She seemed surprised that I knew it was a scam and asked how I found out, so I told her.) I asked that they never call me again.

Caller identifies wife or myself by first name and proceeds to offer back braces, etc. to be paid for thru Medicare. Calls come on weekends and holidays, I suspect from accent they are originating in India or some other overseas call center. We received one almost every day and do not answer any longer. Caller ID shows "Medical Supply". Received one this morning, Saturday, at 8:20AM. Received one on Labor Day at 8:30.

These people have been calling my mother continuously asking about her level of back pain. They had her name & address. It was always a male with an Middle Eastern/Indian accent. My mother is also hard of hearing so she might have unknowingly answered questions. Finally she told him that I handle all of her medical info & he needed to call when I was here. That happened tonite. The story was that she was eligible to receive a back brace at no cost, totally covered by her insurance. I said she wasn't interested & hung up, he called right back, so I spoke to him. I told him I would not give him any info and he said he would tell me the info and I just had to confirm..he fooled me, I xstarted believing him. I asked where he got the info that she might need a brace, he said her Dr, so like a fool I believed him. I confirmed her name, address & DOB, he asked her weight, I told him I didn't know. Then he wanted me to confirm her Medicare #. I told him to give me what he had & I would confirm. He wouldn't do that he said it was law that it had to come from her end. That's when I woke up & realized that this was indeed a scam. So when I was hesitant he offered me his name & phone # & if I checked him out and I found he was a scammer I could report him. So I said OK. He wanted to wait while I googled him. I said no as we were on our way out, he would have to call back. The phone number he gave me is different from the one that he called from. I looked up the number he gave me and it is a Dr. I called the number and got a recording from the Dr. The person who called said his name is HARRY WILSON. I don't want to stereotype, but with the accent he had, that I could barely understand, he DID NOT sound like a Harry Wilson. She has not lost any money, and when he calls back on Tuesday I will have choice words for him. PLEASE, PLEASE listen to your inner voice when you get these calls & do your homework.

A phone call to my elderly, confused mother led her to believe she would be getting a free back brace for her pain and took her name, date of birth, Dr's name, and social security and then were wanting her to look around for any papers with information for my father.
