Summer requested interior paint for 3 rooms in a home that is for sale in Galway NY. They were to pay by check before the work was started. They then requested to send extra money in the check so that we could pay their "paint suppliers." They sent us a check for $2500 and told us to hold $500 for materials and to send two of their "paint suppliers" $1000 each via PayPal Friends and Family. The emails they sent for payment were from China with Chinese names and their text messages were not written as though English was their primary language. I then looked the property up on the MLS (I am a Realtor) and contacted the Realtor selling the property and she confirmed NAME was not the owner or involved with the sale or upkeep of the house. We deposited the check but caught the scam before sending any money. We expect the check to be cancelled tomorrow as part of the scam to have us transfer money before the check is cancelled. I blocked the individual, so we no longer have their phone number.
