posing to be pay pal wanting me to go to walmart get gift card and give the number for $2000

- Van Nuys, CA, USA

Hi to whom may it concern,

I posted an ad up on letgo

this person contacted me said he was intrested in the shoes

he sent me $180 through pay pal now, pay pal has intially stated they needed me to upgrade to a business account but needed me to buy gift cards to upgrade

i bought per pay pal $1500 in gift cards

along with i was doing another deal selling something off letgo once again

and this other person had me download cash app to send me the money and i can send out the item.

cash app apparently was asking me for gift cards as well

i spent $400 on them- it also stated that i needed to upgrade my account and this is for verification purposes.

i have spent a total of $1900 in gift cards thinking i was complying with the actually company and now this is getting out of hand

i want to report these two people and get my money back.

Please advise

once again one is through pay pal and the other is through cash app

i have both there phone numbers

i also have receipts and payments of all the gift cards that i purchased.

My daughter placed an ad on craigslist to sell her X Box. A buyer from California offered to buy the x box but also wanted her to purchase a $200 gift card for her to include in the package so that it would be sent to the buyers "niece" as a present. He said he would pay her for the gift card as well as $50 for postage and $50 for gas and "running around". At this point he was texting my daughter and was rushing her to go buy the gift card and send the gift card info as well as the scratched off portion on the back and send a pic to "Pay Pal" so they could confirm that she had bought it. At this point, I suspected that this was all a scam, and when I started communicating with him, he became intimidating in which I told him the deal was off. He was angry and said the money had already been sent by him and that "Pay Pal" would take "large action" against me. I told him to cancel the payment and he said he couldn't. He was very persistent and kept on pressuring me to get the gift card. I looked on line and saw that this indeed was a scam and this had happened with people impersonating legitimate buyers, and impersonating Pay Pal as well. He then sent an email from "Pay Pal" which was ridiculous and stated that they would be taking legal action against me if the gift card wasn't purchased within 6 hours. He said I was messing with a "military man" and included a blurry picture of a caucasian officer but the hand holding the ID card was very dark in color. The entire situation was ridiculous but had my daughter very upset. I emailed back this morning and told them that I had reported them to the ScamPulse.com and Pay Pal and the RCMP which I have. I blocked their email address, their texts, and cancelled my daughters Pay Pal account. Hopefully this will be the end of it.

I was desperate for a loan. I was turned down at my bank. I was given several options. I Googled the phone number for Pay Pal and called 877-459-1351. I did not fill out an application. The woman with an accent asked me questions. Nick Williams. I thought it was strange a woman named Nick. I told her the amount I needed. $2600. She stated it would be approved. She mentioned $300. It sounded strange. She said I would need to get Google Play Cards. I could hear a lot of people talking in the background. She asked for the last four digits of my Social Security number. I gave it out. She asked for the last four digits of my debit card. I gave it out. I have already contacted my bank. The woman told me to get three $100 Google Play Cards at Family Dollar. I was unable to purchase them there. It would not go through. I was on the phone with this woman through the process. She told me not to hang up. She told me to go to Walgreens and bought the three cards. I also spoke with a man who told me don't tell them why you want the cards. His name was Kevin Smith. I bought three $100 Google Play Cards. She told me to scratch off the silver part and read the numbers. I read the numbers. She had me buy two more cards. they were hacked. I bought five $100 cards. This happened Wednesday December 5. I would warn people if you have a gut feeling something was not right.

I placed an order and paid through Pay Pal. I found out then when it did not show up that my account was locked - would be open for $100 with Google play card; they said that it did not go through properly and then did a second $100 and he would give me back my first $100; they ended up with $200 of my money and nothing returned. Next, they called again for another $100 on a Google card and I said no, I thought this was a scam.

I got an email from what I thought was "pay pal" saying there was suspicious activity on my account, and that the account had been locked until I provided information to release it, and increase security. The information needed to "unlock" the account, included credit card, bank account number, social insurance number, and mothers name. Unfortunately I was sure it was legitimate and provided most of this information. As soon as I sent this information the email said that my account was unlocked, however pay pal did not recognize that any of this correspondence had taken place. I believe it was a phishing scam to gather my personal information.

car 4 sale on Craigslist and received a txt from above phone number that will purchase vehicle. This is secure as he's using pay pal. Pay pal acct said to said $500 ITune gift cards to complete transaction. That's when I figured it was a scam

I received an email I thought was from PayPal informing me my payment was received at World of Tanks Ltd. in the amount of 78.31. The email stated if this was not me who did the transaction go thru the verification steps in order to cancel it. Which I did. All my personal information was in the verification process. When entering the link was broken and the information was gone. I went back and reread the email numerous times and realized after the fact i should not have done anything except delete it. I am very worried about Identity theft more than ever at this point. I have taken all measures to protect my identity from any fraudulent use but am still very WORRIED about IDENTITY THEFT I am unable to attach the email so this is what it read. (I have a hard copy)

Looking back over this I can see now it should have been deleted, but unfortunately I acted upon it. First time and definitely the last time. I can see how people can get fooled at first glance. Hopefully this @#$ can be caught! and this report can save someone else for being foolish.

Thank you
