Type of a scam Employment
I was in the market for work at home jobs and this sounded pretty good.
The link in the text sent me to a website where I was able to fill out a form. A person then contacted me via email. I asked a few questions about the business, trying to see if they would respond in any broken English or typos.
The job was a Boss Service Officer (don't bother looking that up; it doesn't exist). You are required to print out checks, put them into an envelope and ship them out. All of that for 1500 a month, which sounded good to me.
The contract form they sent me through email did not ask for banking info or Social security number. If they did, I would have turned it down right there. You had the choice to get paid by PayPal or some other Internet bank.
They also want you to send them a copy of your driver's license, front and back.
I did all of that because I thought it was legit, I mean, I was going to handle some important stuff dealing with payroll; they would have to find out if I was legit, right.
So, here's how they got me. Their website says "Advantage Payroll Services" which is a legit company, but the contract form I filled out says Paychex at the top. I did the research for Advantage Payroll, not Paychex. Once the form and my DL was sent, I decided to look into Paychex and that also is a legit company. When you look into careers on the Paychex site, they have an alert about scammers. I went into that page and wouldn't you know it, the M.O of this scammer was the same way I was contacted. They ask for a DL and then have you buy a bunch of stuff (special paper, a paper cutter etc...).
Paychex doesn't have work at home positions, but they have very nice customer reps and they gave me some info about this scam, mainly if I didn't apply for a Paychex job through a Paychex site, then it's a scam.
I am attaching a screen shot of the website to avoid.
Personal note: if you are ever scammed by someone online and they now have a copy of your driver's license, please contact the nearest police station. They really can't do much, but at least if the scammer does a crime and your name is used, there is a police report about the online theft.
