Type of a scam Tech Support
On January 2nd, PC Service Technologies (PCST), located in Hudson, Ohio, contacted me via a warning on my computer screen to speak with a Microsoft representative who would help me deal with the this invasion. Otherwise, Microsoft would take me out of the network so that I would not affect other computer users.
What to do? I dialed the number as commanded and asked, "To whom am I speaking?" The PCST employee said that he was a Microsoft employee and that he would attempt to de-bug my computer. For 45 minutes, he instructed me to press this key and that key etc. Then he announced that a technician was needed to purge my computer of the virus. The cost would be 4199.99, which included anti-virus software, Webroot. Half an hour later, the PCST employee called me to announce that the technician had completed his work and would I be interested in computer protection services for $199 for one year and $299 for two years. I reminded him that he had offered me the services of the technician and anti-virus software for $199; he lamely dropped the ludicrous protection offer.
To pay for their services, I gave my credit card number. After concluding the transaction, I hung up and thought that I had been scammed. My wife thought so too, and as a result, I cancelled all of our credit cards. When the VISA bill arrived, I immediately phoned Microsoft and learned that PCST was not an affiliate of Micrososft. I had been scammed. I called PCST and announced that thye had hacked into my my computer to defraud me of $200. The PCST employee agreed to refund me the entire amount. A week went by and I had not been reimbursed, so I called again. Thsi time, I was only offered $100. I reluctantly agreed to this amount, but PCST did not come through with the credit to my account.
I contacted CITIBANK to dispute the charge. They are in the process of investigating my claim of being a victim of fraud perpetrated by PCST.
I welcome an investigation by your organization into the shady dealings of PCS Service Technologies.
