Penner & Arsenault scam based on Consumer Clearinghouse lottery award

"Junior Associate" Sidney Evan of the Penner & Arsenault Law Firm called to tell me I'd won $500,000, asking if I'd received prior mail notification. I explained that if I had, I'd thrown it away, assuming it was a scam. She assured me a check would be delivered between 9AM and 11AM on Thursday Aug 31, 2023 (the call was on Aug 29th). Very friendly and articulate, she repeatedly assured me this was no scam (of course), and simply asked to confirm my name, address, and age. She did ask my preference in credit cards (Visa, MC, Amex), marital status, and whether I owned or rented my home. I explained that there was already a "scam" report regarding Penner & Arsenault and a supposed $500,000 Consumer Clearinghouse award (I searched while talking). She forwarded my call to her supervisor for final confirmation. When Ms. Arsenault picked up, she asked me to wait a few minutes until she could get to her office, where she could talk more freely (saying her "secretary" had mistakenly forwarded the call to her in a conference room). I received no further calls.

Richard Arsenault a lawyer called my husband's cell and said I also had to be on the phone. He said we just won $500,000 from CUSTOMER CLEARING (house?) INTERNATIONAL. He gave us a claim#. But because this is an international prize, we had to clear customs first. The IRS has to be paid taxes of $65,000.00, which is 43% of the winnings. We told him NO we do not have that kind of money as a retired couple. He told us in our state we could get help to pay because we can get 20 - 76%. He said he would go for the 76% and got it down to AMAZINGLY only $1,600.00 out of pocket for us. We had to pay now to clear customs to get our winnings and guarantee the IRS we will pay. This is all in 3 different calls because he said he had to take other calls. Finally, I said how come IF we won this money how come we have to pay money to get our winnings!! This happened in August 2023 and the IRS does not even know we won any money YET! He had answers for everything! I told him to send me in writing by certified mail or email me so I could show it to my lawyer and see if it was a good thing or not for us. He got mad at that and said fine if you want to use your own lawyer. That is how we FINALLY got rid of this scammer.
